Panel: Building Blocks for a Successful Open Banking Landscape

Tuesday May 16, 2023 09:40 - 10:25
Type: Payments Track
Venue: Tour & Taxis

This panel will focus on key aspects of Open Banking, including the evaluation of PSD2 and Open Banking in general, the potential impact on Open Banking from schemes like Sepa Payments Account Access Scheme (SPAA) and Request-to-Pay, and what the next steps are for this rapidly evolving industry.

Back in February, Gijs Boudewijn, General Manager at the Dutch Payments Association, shared in one of our virtual sessions: "The SPAA stems from the discomfort and unhappiness of both sides of the market, banks as well as TPPs, with the results of open banking, as defined in PSD2, lacking, on the one hand, the functionality that the TPPs would like to have, and lacking the incentive for the banks to create good API's and good functionality."

The PSD2 regulation, which came into effect in 2018, has created a framework for banks to share customer data with third-party providers securely. What is the situation now, almost 5 years later, and what can be done to improve the situation?

The panelists will explore what's next for Open Banking, including the potential for new regulations, increased collaboration between banks and fintechs, and the emergence of new payment methods.
